WARM-UP

  1. What does it look like to ‘be strong’ in the eyes of the world?
  2. How is the Christian life a spiritual battle? Who has ultimately won the war?

READ Ephesians 6:10-13

  1. How are we to ‘be strong’ in the Lord? What kind of strength has God worked in us?
  2. Paul has an emphasis on standing in the face of evil. What does it look like to stand?
  3. What is it that we are to take our stand against? How are we able to stand?
  4. What are two common errors when thinking about Satan? How can we avoid these? How has Jesus ultimately won the war against these evil forces?

READ Ephesians 6:14-17

  1. How does truth bind and keep everything together? Where is it that we find the ultimate truth?
  2. By what means do we receive righteousness? How does this protect us from attacks?
  3. What is the ultimate peace that we can have? What difference does having our foundations in the gospel have in our everyday lives?
  4. What is the Roman shield like? In what do we put our faith in? How is this faith different to common worldly perceptions of faith?
  5. What are the evil one’s flaming arrows? How could we experience these in our lives today?
  6. Why is the word of God like a sword? When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, what did he do? How can we shape our lives to be more like Jesus in this area?

READ Ephesians 6:18-23

  1. What does it mean to pray in the Spirit? What kinds of prayers can we pray? How is prayer meant to be a communal activity?
  2. Who have you been praying for to become a Christian? How are you going with this?
  3. What has been encouraging from this term in Ephesians? What has challenged you?
  4. If you had to sum up the book of Ephesians in one sentence, what would it be?

APPLY: How can you remind yourself to put on the armour each day?

Gracious God, we thank you that in this life you have not left us alone but have given us all we need in the resources from the Gospel and your Spirit. Help us to not forget this or take it for granted but to be renewed by it day by day. Protect us by your mighty power. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
