This Sunday we’re praying for Bishop Daniel, who asks for prayers for Duk and South Sudan, where things seem to be relentlessly difficult:
- 11 people have lost their lives while attempting to reach a newly established safe zone in Duk, a particularly cruel move by those who intentionally work against peace in the area.
- Starvation is increasingly becoming widespread in Duk and also across South Sudan. This is partly due to increasing dependence on humanitarian aid provided by the UN, which is seeing disruption caused by other world events.
- The effects of fighting in Sudan is being felt in South Sudan and the South Sudanese community here in Australia. Many here in Australia have family members in Khartoum, who are desperately trying to flee the unrest, gone missing or have lost their lives while attempting to flee. The community here are grieving loss of loved ones, anxious for the safety of their relatives. They are also experiencing financial stress as they send much needed funds to family members who are fleeing and are now destitute.
